Sabang
A new refrigerator designed for the Asian market of the brand
Sabang is a refrigerator designed specifically for the Asian market. Targeting high-income individuals in their 30s who live alone in compact urban homes, the design is rooted in a deep analysis of lifestyle, eating habits, and emerging social trends in Asia.
One of the most significant dietary patterns identified is meal prepping – the practice of preparing large quantities of food in advance and storing them in multiple containers. Unlike traditional lunchboxes, meal prep emphasizes convenience, efficiency, and healthy eating. Busy professionals in Asia are increasingly turning to meal prepping as a way to maintain a balanced diet amidst their hectic schedules. This trend calls for refrigerators with high-performance food preservation features.
Sabang addresses these needs through a slim, space-efficient design that fits seamlessly into smaller living spaces. It offers premium functionality for storing fresh ingredients, while also catering to the tastes of affluent users who seek luxury and personalization in their home appliances.
In line with Gaggenau's ultra-luxury heritage, Sabang features a bold new approach to CMF (Color, Material, Finish): the refrigerator's front panel is crafted using a refined Asian lacquer technique. This is not ordinary paint, but rather a process involving the layering of semi-transparent dark ink-like finishes, creating a deep, elegant surface that embodies sophistication and craftsmanship. This unique material expression aligns Sabang with Gaggenau's premium image while bringing a distinct cultural sensibility to the kitchen.
