Wool in Three Dimensions

Wool in Three Dimensions is a material exploration project that aims to utilize and highlight Swedish wool. Made exclusively from needle-felted Swedish wool rescued from incineration and pine, this piece of furniture demonstrates how a sustainable approach to design can result in an outcome that is both innovative and playful.

The wool cushion is handwoven using a technique called MultiWeave, originally developed by Marilyn Piirsalu and Kadi Pajupuu. This method creates a solid, three-dimensional object by weaving layer upon layer with a single continuous strand.

Using this material and technique, virtually any shape can be woven. The resulting object can stand on its own or be combined with a frame, opening up endless possibilities for creativity and application.

The outcome of this process is a lounge chair designed for reading, relaxing, or perhaps drifting off for a nap. Sitting in it feels like a warm embrace, while its sturdy construction keeps it firmly anchored to the floor.
