Unconventional Standard

Innovative use of standard aluminum profiles in furniture design

In this project, I explored the possibility of standard aluminum and eventually converted it into a folding chair. The goal of this project is to find a way to use aluminum,so that it reflects the possibility of aluminum in furniture design, and can adapt to mass production and market needs, and thus promote the use of aluminum in this industry, especially standard aluminum. During the research on aluminium profiles, I found that the T-slots on the most commonly used standard aluminium profiles have great potential. The grooves of the T-slots in the standard aluminum perfectly serve as the track required for the end point movement, controlling the direction and amplitude of the extended mechanical motion. In this case, the aluminum frame not only provides structural support, but also assumes the function of guiding. This project demonstrates the application potential of aluminium profiles as both functional components and aesthetic features.
