Touch-sensitive controller for intuitive music-making through gesture, texture, and form
This project explores how tactile interaction can make music creation more accessible by replacing traditional controls with an intuitive, physical interface. It introduces a modular, touch-sensitive controller built from soft, abstract surfaces that respond to gesture, pressure, and contact. Inspired by organic matter, the design removes screens and buttons, allowing users to focus entirely on shape, feel, and direct engagement with sound through their hands.
Rather than guiding users with symbols or labels, the interface encourages open-ended exploration. Each module is shaped to evoke a specific kind of interaction. These varied forms invite sliding, pressing, tapping, and squeezing, each producing a distinct sonic response. The absence of traditional cues invites the user to rely on their senses, creating a deeper and more personal connection to sound without needing prior musical training or technical knowledge.
Aimed at both beginners and experienced creators, the project challenges screen-based workflows and proposes a more sensory and inclusive approach to music making. Through iterative prototyping, material research, and hands-on user testing, it reimagines how we connect with digital sound. The result is a playful yet expressive tool that replaces complexity with curiosity, instruction with discovery, and turns sound creation into a physical, embodied experience.
