What can be done when combining leftover material from small scale wood and textile productions?

The increased awareness of the importance of sustainability has created a possibility for a more climate friendly future. But at the same time, biodiversity is at risk due to overstraining practices used by forest and textile industries. Do we have to choose between one or the other when ensuring a greener course of action?

In this project, the aim has been to explore what can be done when combining leftover wood and textiles from standard productions. By utilising what already exists, the mission has been to develop a piece of furniture inspired by the origins of its materia, in hopes of normalising the practice of reconsidering the use of raw material. As inspiration rather than a protest, the goal has been to exhibit the possibilities in using leftover material in a standardised production setting.

Alongside environmental principles, the use of traditional and manual making methods has been of great interest. With a wish for a deeper connection with the material, methods have been chosen accordingly. By understanding the material, the idea has been to tie it back to our relationship with nature and fully realise and acknowledge its importance and crucial role for humankind.
