Garnishing Light
Designed for the Nordic indoor kitchen garden, allowing fresh herbs all year around.
The long Nordic winters with little to no visible sunlight are commonly known to affect our mental well-being. As the seasons change, so does our behaviour, activities and everyday routines.
Gardening, cooking with freshly grown greens and surrounding ourselves with greenery are activities strongly associated with summer and disappear during the colder months due to the weather conditions. Creating an indoor garden requires artificial light, however, many grow lights on the market prioritize function over aesthetics.
This project explores how a grow light can become an integrated part of the home rather than a purely technical object.
The final concept is a vertical and modular grow light designed for herbs. Its modular structure allows the height of the light source to adapt as the plants grow, encouraging the user to actively engage with the growing process. The vertical form saves space and allows multiple plants beneath it.
Garnishing Light serves as a reminder of the connection to nature and everyday summer activities often missed during the long and dark Nordic winters.
